Social Science / Market Research Intern

We are looking for an individual interested in researching the inner workings of the pickleball industry from economic and sociological perspectives.

This internship will be an opportunity to understand pickleball culture on a micro level. Your task will be to learn its social trends, key influencers, and the industry’s consumer culture. You are responsible for exploring across Austin, conducting participant observations, and gathering qualitative and quantitative data about pickleball (e.g. demographics, beverage habits, and social network analysis, et.al.). This internship will include research, photography, analytics, and a final semester report. In essence, we are looking to reverse-engineer pickleball mechanics in critical markets and how "cool" trends are born and spread.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the CEO to evaluate key market pickleball ecosystems.

  • Research, data-gather, and observe Austin's pickle scene based on the study's parameters above.

  • Analyze gathered data and research, and present your findings to Executives.

Perfect Candidate

You should have a passion for cultural analysis! You have an easy disposition and are adverse to drama. You can blend into many social situations and pick out and record relevant details. You remain calm and thrive in a fast-paced environment that has minimal structure. If you are into brand anthropology, Malcolm Gladwell's Tipping Point, and are one of those people who can spot trends and new styles before they become widespread, you are the person for us!

The right candidate:

  • Is equally as soulful as they are thick-skinned

  • You must be exceptionally disciplined in your approach, willing to ask questions, and confident to work independently. We are NOT hand holders!

  • Listens well and eagerly takes direction and constructive criticism.

  • Is often told. . . "you just get it"

  • Passionate for creative culture and sports camaraderie.

This position is expected to start as soon as possible and continue through the entire Winter/Spring term (i.e. through April/May) or into early Summer 2023 if available.

This internship is unpaid, however, interns will gain hands-on, real-world experience, and be directly mentored by senior leadership. Paid opportunities may be available during the summer for interns who excel.
